All parties to the Russia-Ukraine War should commit to genuine diplomacy with serious negotiations, however, we recognize the full agency of Ukraine to best represent themselves in these talks.
We note that in launching the Russia-Ukraine War in 2014, beginning with a covert military operation in Crimea, Russia reneged on its assurances for peaceful coexistence with Ukraine agreed in the “Budapest Memorandum on Security Assurances” (1994).
“Russia’s invasion of Ukraine is a violation of its territorial integrity and of the Charter of the United Nations. It must end for the sake of the people of Ukraine, Russia, and the entire world…. The war on Ukraine is senseless in its scope, ruthless in its dimensions and limitless in its potential for global harm. ” — United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres, 5 May 2022
